When is Speech & Language Therapy Needed?
A Speech & Language Therapist can help both children and adults who are experiencing challenges in understanding or using spoken language, as well as those who may need to develop skills in non-verbal communication.
Clients are referred to a Speech & Language Therapist for may different reasons, including:-
Some clients may require training in the use of non-verbal communication systems, such as PECS, Makaton Sign Language, Picture Communication.
For some, electronic communication aids are a viable and effective option.
Clients are referred to a Speech & Language Therapist for may different reasons, including:-
- Articulation Problems
- Stammering / Stuttering
- Speech or language delay
- Dyspraxia (developmental or acquired)
- Semantic / Pragmatic (language) disorders
- Oral comprehension difficulties
- Feeding problems
- Word-finding problems
- Dysphasia (developmental or acquired)
- Hearing loss / Cochlear implant
- Cleft lip and/or palate
- Auditory Processing Disorder
- Children experiencing specific syndromes e.g.. ASD, ADHD, Down Syndrome, etc, usually require Speech Therapy
